Electronic prescriptions, e-prescriptions, are computer-generated prescriptions that are offered by GPs so that they can send prescriptions electronically to a place where you prefer, let it be pharmacy, dispensing appliance contractor or GP practice who offers medicines.
You GP will write and enter your prescription directly into his computer, instead of writing it on a piece of paper. Your electronic prescription will travel from your GP’s computer to the chemist’s computer.
An electronic prescription is sent online via a private, secured and closed IT networks so that your prescription details are not sent through open network or email.

Your GP can send prescription electronically only to the dispenser you nominate. If you do not wish your prescription to be sent electronically, or your pharmacy does not offer electronic prescription service, your GP will provide you a printout.
